My Story
I’ve always been fascinated by the impact stories have on how we see the world. From an early age, I have been drawn to the different beliefs and perspectives people hold. I began writing stories to explore the world around me and to create new worlds where things could be seen differently. In the theatre where I grew up, I learned to explore, understand, and embody different perspectives through acting—it was the place where I felt most at home—where my passion for storytelling was born and where I wrote and directed my first film… read more
This curiosity led me to study Communication Science and International Affairs, where I became particularly interested in how identification with film characters can influence behavioural change. Alongside theory and research, I felt an increasing need to translate thought into experience—to bring the worlds in my mind into lived reality. This led me to further study drama, camerajournalism, creative writing, and creative photography.
I gained hands-on experience over four years at a creative agency as a writer/director and producer before joining a VR startup in similar roles. In 2015, I moved into VR for its potential as an empathy machine—a medium that allows us to step into someone else’s inner world. During this time, I created immersive experiences presented at the EYE Filmmuseum, the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, and festivals including IDFA and the Netherlands Film Festival. Working in VR sparked my interest in technological innovation and how it shapes the way we tell stories.
In 2017, I founded the Virtual Acting Studio, where I explore character creation and identification in the digital age and its impact on perception. From my studio, I collaborate on projects such as The Project Touched by a Hologram, whose research contributed to From Dust—a VR experience that won the Immersive Competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2025.
Today, I focus on projects that reflect my own vision and personal storytelling, while also helping researchers, tech innovators, and labs bring their ideas and future thinking to life. My current work, The Dyslexic Writer, is a documentary and VR immersive installation that explores dyslexia—not only as a challenge, but as a lens on identity and on how dyslexic thinking can contribute to a fast-changing world. The project has received support from the Netherlands Film Fund, Cultuurloket Digital, and the Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie.
Filmmaking is at the heart of my practice. It is how I explore the world, connect with people, and turn complex ideas into lived experience.
